I have been a birdwatcher for some time and have been a fledgling genealogist for a shorter time. The trials and errors of tracing my family and trying to figure out which bird is which has some similarities.
Here are some of the articles from Lee’s Birdwatching Adventures Plus that talk about both interest. Unfortunately, in the Where Are You From post, I went from excitement of finding a Mayflower ancestor, only to chop that limb off my tree in the Where Are You From Part II – Correction.

This Laughingthrush was taken by me at Zoo Miami. I like to call him, “Joe Cool.” He actually is a good chose for thinking you are doing so well tracing all the family members, only to have to remove them sometimes.
Not to be discouraged, because we all make mistakes. The object is to back up and correct those mistakes and continue finding out who really is the correct ancestor or descendant.

Hey, Lee, above you admit “This Laughingthrush was taken by me at Zoo Miami” — WOW! If you took that thrush, form the zoo, you really should return it. But I’m guessing that you meant to say “This Laughingthrush [photograph] was taken by me at Zoo Miami.” Just having fun with your wording, and I’m geographically to distant from you so you can’t slap me for being a smart-aleck.

So much for being a smart-aleck — there are 2 typos in my comment: “form the zoo” should say “from the zoo”, and “geographically to distant” should say “geographically too distant”. Oh well, maybe next time I won’t be a smart-aleck.

It’s a good thing! 🙂 I’ll just let “Joe Cool” take care of you the next time you come to Florida.
